Privacy Notice

The shortest honest version: we collect what you send us, we use it to reply, and we publish nothing that could identify a scholar.

Scholar privacy comes first

Taking part in photography, interviews, stories, or any other public communication is entirely voluntary and is never a condition of sponsorship. A scholar may decline without any effect on their funding, participation, standing, or relationship with the Foundation.

Images, names, and identifying information are published only with appropriate informed consent, and with regard for the scholar's privacy, dignity, safety, age, community context, and circumstances. Consent may be withdrawn, and where privacy or safety warrants it, records remain anonymized or details are generalized in consultation with the operating program.

What we collect from you

If you send an inquiry, we receive what you type: your name, your email address, your organization, and your message. That is all. We do not require an account and we do not ask for anything we do not need to reply.

Like most websites, our hosting provider records basic technical information such as IP address and browser type for security and reliability. We do not run advertising trackers or sell profiles.

Why we hold it

To answer you, to evaluate potential program partnerships, and to keep records of our own decisions. Nothing more. We do not use inquiry details for marketing, and we send no newsletters unless you ask us to.

Who sees it

A small number of Foundation staff, and the service providers who host this site and deliver our email. We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information, and we share it with third parties only where the law requires it.

How long we keep it

Inquiries are retained only as long as they are useful to the relationship they concern, and then deleted. Verification records about sponsorships are held under our own retention policy and are not published in identifiable form except where a scholar has consented to it.

Your choices

You may ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to privacy@jrbrownfoundation.org and we will respond. Because we accept no donations, there is no payment data anywhere in our systems.
